The lion at the top of the helmet means we are the descendants of a King or Queen, but just from one crowned parent. In our case, we are the offspring of Ramiro II King of Leon (Ramiro Ordoņez) and our original mother was not a Queen but most probably a moorish or sephardic jewi servant out of wedlock, as was in use in those days when the "Prima Nocte" right  of the feudal lord was common. Those born from two crowned parents have the right to use two lions, one in front of the other and if their dinasty is still in power there ought to be a crown in top of the lions. As far as we are concerned, the kingdom of Leon divided after our Patriarch's untimely death and from its ashes emerged Castille and Portugal.

The halberd means we are descendants of a conqueror or a warrior.

The crescent moons facing downwards mean the battles lost by the moors to our Patriarch, six in total during his reign. (931-951) He defeated Abd-El-Rahman III and took Magerit (Madrid) from him. Unluckly, he became sick during the asault on Toledo and died shortly afterwards. Destiny helped the Moors to hold firmly into their remaining strongholes in Al Andalus for 500 years more.
